As of December 1, 2017, if you have an account with a Canadian telecommunications carrier your cell you can get the device unlocked at no cost by contacting your carrier.
If you don't have an active account with the carrier, or if your account is not in good standing, we can unlock your phone. See below for details.

What is the cost and timeline to unlock my mobile device?

The cost for us to unlock your Apple or Android device on a Canadian telecommunications carrier is $49 and the turnaround time is 1-3 days. We cannot unlock a mobile device from Freedom.

If you have an iPhone that is locked to Bell/Virgin/Telus/Koodo, and there is an unpaid amount owing on the account, the cost to unlock your iPhone is $89 and the turnaround time is 1-10 days. The cost for Rogers/Fido locked phones remains at $49.

How do I unlock my mobile device?
You can unlock your mobile device by emailing us the IMEI number and calling us to make payment by credit card, or by coming to the store at 935 Seymour Street, Vancouver to make arrangements. We will need the following information:

What is cell phone unlocking?
An unlocked cell phone or tablet with cellular can pick up service through any carrier that supports the device.
Why should I get my cell phone unlocked?
The main reason to unlock your phone is to save you money. An unlocked cell phone can save you money is if you happen to be traveling to another country. With an unlocked cell phone, you can avoid expensive roaming and calling charges by simply getting a SIM card in that country. This will save you from getting a very high cell phone bill when your arrive home.

The other way an unlocked cell phone can save you money is on your cell phone plan right here in Canada. Having an unlocked cell phone allows you to choose any network service provider you desire. You wont need to sign a yearly contract, and you will be able to get a discounted monthly rate on your cell phone bill. By shopping around, you will be able to find a month-to-month plan that fits your needs best. Currently there are plans here in Vancouver for less than $40 a month, which gives you unlimited access to data and calling.
Will my cell phone ever become locked again?
All our cell phone unlocks are "factory unlocks", which means your phone is guaranteed to be unlocked forever when you unlock with us. It is important to make sure you get a "factory unlock" when unlocking your cell phone. Other types of unlocks can only be temporary, and may not let you update your cell phone.
